Oscar Fever Starts Here!

OK, so I'm a bit late with this post, but hey, it's Chinese New Year week, ok? I was too damn lazy to even update my Facebook status (which I usually do twice or three times a day), let alone BLOG.

Anyway, the Oscars will be on 23rd February, and the nominations are out. While I'm upset that The Dark Knight wasn't even nominated for Best Picture or Best Director, I AM thrilled that Slumdog Millionaire will be slumming it with the usual crop of 'Oscar Worthy' movies like Milk (Sean Penn AGAIN), Frost/Nixon (Ron Howard AGAIN), The Reader (the Holocaust AGAIN), and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

So... without further ado.. the nominees are.... (with MY personal favorites to win in bold...)

-------------------------------

THE MAJOR AWARDS:

BEST PICTURE:
  • The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  • Frost/Nixon
  • Milk
  • The Reader
  • Slumdog Millionaire (because I want the underdog to win for once, and because I love the show, that's why. And the other ones are all the usual suspects who win this award anyway...)

DIRECTING:
  • The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  • Frost/Nixon
  • Milk
  • The Reader
  • Slumdog Millionaire (Same reason I gave above, except that I also don't want Ron Howard to win it AGAIN)

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE:
  • Richard Jenkins (The Visitor)
  • Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon)
  • Sean Penn (Milk)
  • Brad Pitt (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button)
  • Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) (because it would be a real fairytale indeed if Rourke won this... and besides, it's MARV, for gods sake!)

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE:
  • Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married)
  • Angelina Jolie (Changeling)
  • Melissa Leo (Frozen River)
  • Meryl Streep (Doubt)
  • Kate Winslet (The Reader) (For fucks sake, give the woman an Oscar already!Streep has too many, Jolie already has one, and the other two... well, let them get as many nominations without a win as Winslet, then you compare them with her ok?)

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE:
  • Josh Brolin - Milk
  • Robert Downey Jr. - Tropic Thunder
  • Philip Seymour Hoffman - Doubt
  • Heath Ledger - The Dark Knight (As if I need to explain this choice...)
  • Michael Shannon - Revolutionary Road

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE:
  • Amy Adams - Doubt
  • Penélope Cruz - Vicky Cristina Barcelona (because she's hot, that's why. And no, I haven't even watched any of the other movies. LOL)
  • Viola Davis - Doubt
  • Taraji P. Henson - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  • Marisa Tomei - The Wrestler
