Forget Joe, There Better Be More Baroness and Scarlett, Godammit.

I saw around 2o minutes ofa very very rough, unfinished cut of the upcoming GI Joe movie last month, and I have to say, though I'm not exactly a very big fan of GI Joe (Transformers will always trump the Joes for me), the action set piece they showed us looks pretty wicked, and Sienna Miller looks damn hot as the Baroness...

Heck, check out these new character posters, and tell me that you don't want to at least watch the movie just to see Miller and Rachel Nichols in black leather as the Baroness and Scarlett respectively...

And ninjas are always cool, so Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow deserve their posters here too:

The rest.... I could do without though. I mean, who really cares about Duke or That White Chicks fella as Ripcord?

Oh if you insist...

Hand-Drawn Disney Fairytales Are Back Again!

Am I the only one who thinks it's about time Disney stopped trying to compete in the CG-animated scene and just go back to making gorgeously hand-drawn 2D animated feature fairy tales?

After all, Beauty & The Beast was one of the best 'cartoons' ever made (I hate using that word for animated features), so good that it was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. The Little Mermaid and Aladdin were also great fun to watch, though the rot arguably began when they broke out that busty vixen Pocahontas (I always thought Mulan was not too bad though).

Then, Pixar started making waves, and lo and behold, Disney decided that, "Hey look, those Pixar guys are doing so well with CGI, no one wants to watch our 2D animated shoddily-written stories anymore, probably because they are 2D! Who cares if the stories sucked? They're 2D! Let's get rid of the hand-drawn division and get into 3D CG animation already OMG there's big bucks to be made!".

Well, the first one they churned out was that rotten egg Chicken Little, followed by other insipid shit like The Wild (cleverly released immediately AFTER Madagascar), and... see I can't even remember if they made anything else after that.

Anyway, welcome back, Disney. Or more specifically, thanks to John Lasseter, welcome back, 2D hand-drawn animated fairytales.

Behold... The Princess and the Frog!

Now let's see if Lasseter can work his chief creative officer magic on 2D animation as well...

MUSICLARITY: Jiwang Tuesday #8 (The One With Adik-Beradik Yang Bercinta)

Everyone knows Ella, but how many of you know who Korie is? I think he did have a couple of hits before he disappeared from the face of the Jiwang scene. 2 or 3 in fact, including this one, Pergilah Sayang with his sister Ella.

Yes, his SISTER Ella. THE Ella, Rock Queen of Malaysia and Princess of Enjoys. I don't know about you, but there's something distinctly creepy about a brother and sister singing a love duet together, and telling each other "memadu kasih janji bersama" and "bersama-sama melafaz kata cinta"...

It IS a good song though, and they do sing well together. Just wish it didn't sound so... incestuous, that's all...

Acquisitions: Ella & Korie - Pergilah Sayang

DISCLAIMER: All the mp3s available here are for sampling purposes only. So don't be an irresponsible pirate - if you really like the songs, be sure to buy the album also, ok? Once Again, Only At Cape Number Seven

Cape No. 7
海角七號
Not a Review.
Thoroughly deserves all the praise.
It's damn good.
If you liked Once,
You'll probably like this as well.

Ok, it's not EXACTLY like Once.
Not as lo-fi as that,
But it's about a musician,
Who has to form a band in his little village.
And the music is great.
And it gave me the same feeling I did after I watced Once.

It's in Japanese, Mandarin, Taiwanese dialect (sounds like Hokkien)
It's got rock music,
Funny supporting characters,
Some touching romance,
A hot Japanese chick,
And a pretty good soundtrack to boot.

I even bought the soundtrack as soon as I came out of the cinema.
Like the time I bought the soundtrack for Once,
As soon as I watched the movie.
The songs here are pretty damn good,
Not like usual Taiwanese pop songs,
Which all sound the same.

Go watch it.
Watch it with a chick.
Watch it for the music,
Watch it for the cute Japanese chick,
Watch it for the endearing supporting cast
And most of all, watch it...
...for that heartbreaking moment at the very end...

The Mutual Wankjob By An Author and a Popstar

A couple weeks ago, the newspaper pullout on Sunday had a pretty intriguing interviewer-interviewee match-up that caught my eye. It had this so-called acclaimed best-selling local author interviewing a Taiwanese American-born prettyboy pop superstar, which I thought would be a pretty good story, despite my personal dislike for the author's so-called acclaimed book.

Unfortunately, the fucking story turned out to be nothing but a mutual jerk-off session between the two. Half of it was filled with pseudo-intellectual questions by the author no doubt designed to show off what an intellectual genius he is, and what creative and profound opinions he has; while the rest of it was just the popstar agreeing with whatever diatribe the author brought up, with some opinions thrown in.

I'm not gonna repeat what was in the article proper, but for the most part, I could just imagine the author talking like this throughout the entire 'interview':

"Hey, you listen to Classical music... I do too! I think your music is so much like it, and is so inspiring because you use such obscure cultural influences, the way I like to do in my books!"

"Hey, you were inspired by that story. So was I! I think it's great that people like us can understand these things and use them to inspire others!"

"Wow, you read that book. I did too, and I thought it was so inspiring the way it inspires me to talk about it as if only people like us can understand it. Who cares if none of those uneducated masses don't care to read about it?"

I don't blame the popstar. He's trained to answer whatever questions are thrown at him, and judging from what I know and heard from him so far, he IS a pretty deep character if you saw beyond the pretty-boy looks and the celebrity status. It's just that even after reading that bloody 'interview', I still knew next to nothing about him as a PERSON. All I knew was he liked a bunch of obscure intellectual cultural stuff, which the author was more than happy to agree upon.

Anyway, as if that mutual wankjob of a story wasn't enough, the NEXT week, there was a letter from some professor in Australia who was praising the bloody piece to high heavens, and saying that the author had 'done his homework' and wished that all the interviews in the paper were like that.

Oh gee whiz, you want proper non-tabloidy pieces on musicians or actors? Go check out the stories and interviews in Q or Empire magazine. Some of it may be quite fluffy, but the way they are written is compelling, interesting, well-informed and does not sound as if the interviewer is trying to show off that he is awesome and SO well-informed. You'd learn more about the PERSON WHO IS BEING INTERVIEWED than the interviewee, their music, their life, their character and inspirations, AND you wouldn't fucking want to throw up on yourself from all the mutual jerkoffs the author puts in.

Fuck, TWO HOURS with the guy, and THAT was all he came up with - a piece that was just as much about himself than the popstar. If only we could get that much time with one person. Most of the time when we interview celebrities, we're stuck with what, 10, 20 minutes, 30 minutes max. Sigh.....

Bitter? No, hardly. Just upset that such a brilliant interview opportunity was wasted on such a fucking self-indulgent story...

MUSICLARITY: Jiwang Tuesday #7 (The One Yang Aku Tak Teringin)

I remember a time when the Jiwang music market seemed to be dominated by similar sounding Malay female artists with names that ended with the leter 'A' - Shima, Ella, Nora, Amy Mastura, Ziana (or maybe it's just because there are so many Malay names with 'A' in the end) - and when the hottest song of the year was Teringin by Shima.

EVERYONE was singing the damn song, even my Chinese friends. It annoyed the hell out of me. The song was fine, but her VOICE annoyed the hell out of me. I didn't mind jiwangness in Mat Rock bands, but somehow I just couldn't stand the voices of this female singers. Except Ella. Ella is cool. I still enjoys her muzik. Do you enjoys also?

Acquisitions: Shima - Teringin

Ok, so it's just mostly The Fallen's eyes, but it's the first teaser poster from Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen, so I want the bloody poster! WHEEEE!

----------------------------------------------------

(Update: 2:36pm)

Not satisfied with the image above? Here's an ENHANCED image of the poster from the TF Live Blog... And I have to say it looks bloody awesome. This poster would go PERFECTLY side by side with the Terminator Salvation teaser.... :D

(Taken from Comingsoon.net)

People are saying this ain't the Fallen, but the new design Megatron... Whatever, it looks bloody badass anyway!

And if that ain't enough, check out this picture of SIDESWIPE as a GM Corvette (Centennial Design Concept)!

The Fallout from the Fall Out Boy Post...

Hmmm...
Where'd that Fail Out Boy post go?
Oh wait, what, DMCA?
Chilling Act.
Holy cow.

Apparently, some people objected to little old me posting Fail Out Boy's songs here, and completely deleted my oh-so-glowing post on their new album.

Oh well, serves me right for posting the only two listenable songs on their new album here. Looks like you'll have to go waste your money on the album instead. LOL.

The Cold Sun Bursts And Plays Over KL In March!

FINALLY! Something music fans can look forward to in KUALA LUMPUR this year!

Remember Sunburst Festival last year at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club, with The Roots, Incubus, John Legend, George Clinton and er... Hujan?

Well, it's coming back, and Reta and I have been getting really excited about the prospective bands that MAY (yes, MAY) come to the festival. Already, there have been some really big names being bandied around, and some really strange ones as well.

Reta's been the more semangat one, doing research and praying to the music gods to see what the lineup might look like. Of course, this has more to do with her hoping that the lineup sucks so she won't feel bad about potentially missing the festival due to her holiday, but oh well... hehehe.

Anyway, names that have been bandied around lately include Main Sejuk, Peronda Salji, Penghulu Kaiser, Pembunuh, Tiga Sebelas, and er... Nickelback... so we're hoping that at least ONE of those acts (ok, except Nickelback) will be able to make it here.

Anyhoo, we're still planning to do an Sunburst All-Day Groupie Outing, from the very first act to the very last act... So who's with us???

And just in case the Music Gods are listening, and since the organisers started a Facebook thread asking us to choose what artistes we would like to see here, here are MY picks for potential festival headliners...

- THE ARCADE FIRE!!!!

The IF YOU GET THESE BANDS I WILL FIREBOMB YOUR FUCKING FESTIVAL List:

- Good Charlotte
- Linkin Park

I Wanna Watch The Watchmen in March.... :-(

Man, this sucks giant blue balls...

Apparently the Watchmen movie that was due to be released in March MAY be postponed indefinitely because the idiots in Warner Bros. conveniently forgot that the rights to the property belongs to Fox, and went ahead making the movie without bothering to check if they COULD do it first.

So now Fox is suing WB to stop them from releasing the movie in March. SUN OF A BEACH......

Watchmen Release Date Decision on Jan. 20

The Los Angeles Times says that lawyers for 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. have agreed to let a federal judge decide whether Warner Bros. will be allowed to release Watchmen on March 6, forgoing a jury trial that could have put the high-profile film's future into even longer limbo.

......

In a preliminary ruling issued Dec. 24, Feess said Fox, and not Watchmen producer and distributor Warner Bros., owned the right to distribute the film.

All About Women.... Three Very Hot Women, to be exact.

All About Women
女人不坏
Not a Review.
It's a chick flick, Hong Kong romantic comedy...
Ok, I don't usually watch this kind of movie.
But it's Tsui Hark.
And it's got three hot chicks.
The ice queen Perhaps Love Zhou Xun.
The sunny smile Secret chick Kuai Lun Mei.
The 'didn't do anything in CJ7' chick Kitty Zhang.

Zhou Xun. 周迅.
So hot in Perhaps Love.
So Icy in Painted Skin.
And so... er.. strange here.
Big dorky glasses,
Strange bowl haircut.
But in the end when she has long hair,
And is not wearing glasses...
She's fucking hot k?

Kwai Lun-Mei. 桂纶镁.
So adorable in Secret.
So... ditzy here.
So charmingly ditzy and kooky.
And she plays electric guitar,
And sings punk rock.
That's a definite TEN in MY book. :P
And of course, I've met her in real life,
And she really IS that sweet. :P

Kitty Zhang. 張雨綺.
So useless in CJ7.
So aloof in real life.
And so Prada-wearing Devil in this one.
She's hot, no doubt about it.
But not THAT hot,
That men will fall all over the place for her.
But she IS hot, no doubt.
In the show, AND in real life. :P

Oh what, the movie?
It's ok.
Too long though. Almost two hours.
Some slapstick,
The usual romantic comedy schtick.
Misunderstandings, weird situations etc.
And all's well ends well.
Bla bla bla.

Sorry, can't really tell you more.
Was too distracted by the three women. Hur hur.
And oh, all about women my foot lar.
After watching this movie,
I can safely say that,
I STILL have no clue what you women are all about.
Doesn't mean I don't appreciate you though.
Hur hur.

I Dub Thee... Sir Pratchett!

Some good news for good old Pratchett at last!

A dubbing for creating a flat world on top of a turtle

Terry Pratchett, whose Discworld novels have won him legions of fans, said he was "flabbergasted" to receive a knighthood. "There are times when phrases such as 'totally astonished' just don't do the job. I am of course delighted and honoured and, needless to say, flabbergasted," said the author, who has sold more than 55m books worldwide.

Oh, and Happy New Year, everyone! Regular blogging transmission will resume on Monday when I'm back at work. :-p
